Il 25 settembre 2009 è stata registrata, all'Apollo Theatre di New York, una puntata dedicata a Springsteen del programma televisivo condotto, da oltre un anno, da Elvis Costello su Sundance Channel: "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with..."

Bruce era affiancato dal chitarrista Nils Lofgren e dal tastierista Roy Bittan, che, durante la serata, con Costello e la band The Imposters hanno proposto alcune jam session molto interessanti.

Costello ha intervistato Springsteen parlando di musica, famiglia,  letteratura, cinema e politica. I comuni ricordi hanno riportato alla straordinaria partecipazione al show di Roy Orbison "In Black e White Night" del 1988. La loquacità di Costello non ha lasciato molto spazio alle repliche di Bruce e l'intervistatore ha finito col rubare spazio all'ospite. La registrazione è durata circa quattro ore da cui ne sono state estratte due per la messa in onda televisiva.

La parte musicale è stata sicuramente più interessante. Elvis Costello & The Imposters hanno iniziato la serata con una splendida versione di "Point Blank". La band di casa ha poi accompagnato Nils Lofgren nel duetto "Like Rain" con Costello e poi a seguire "She's the One".

E' ora la volta di Bruce, che sul palco è accompagnata da Nils e Roy, per una malinconica "Wild Billy's Circus Story". Costello aveva appena confessato per la prima volta che è il suo brano preferito.

E' ora la volta di  "American Skin (41 Shots)", eseguita in versione acustica, e sorpresa inaspettata "Galveston Bay". Bruce ha anche cantato una straordinaria "The River", ma non completato, il disappunto del pubblico.

Uno dei punti salienti è stata la grande interpretazione che Springsteen,  con Costello e The Imposters, hanno dato del classico di Sam & Dave "I Can't Stand Up for Sitting Down". Purtroppo la seguente "Pretty Woman" di Roy Orbison, è rimasta incompiuta in un versione troppo breve.

Elvis Costello in seguito ha continuato a cantare è suonare la chitarra al fianco di Bruce. "Black Ladder" scritta da Patti Scialfa, "Brilliant Disguise",  "The Rising", "Seeds" e un inedito medley composto da "Radio, Radio" di Costello e la springsteeniana "Radio Nowhere", hanno concluso lo show.
